Recipe Variations

Want to create a vanilla version? Then why not use vanilla Nesquik instead? You could also use other Nesquik flavors for a different version. The vanilla flavor can also be found at Wendy’s.

What if you don’t have a blender? You could use a food processor or even a hand blender but it may take a little extra time and you might not get the consistency you are expecting.

Can’t get your hands on Nesquik? Any other chocolate milk powder will work well.

Do you have to use plain milk? Frosty fans can rest easy as you might want to try chocolate almond milk or soy milk. You could also look to try low-fat chocolate milk if you wish. It will still help you get that frosty consistency.

What other secret ingredient can you add? You could make a strawberry frosty instead and use strawberry milk. You could also look to use chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup which will make it more of a chocolate milkshake.

Can you make a grown-up frosty? This would be similar to a White Russian cocktail. Adding rum or vodka will help you to make an adult version of this easy recipe. it is a great way to jazz up this copycat frosty.

Tips & Tricks

  • Adding the vanilla ice cream helps to stabilize the soft serve and give you a creamy texture.
  • If you want a more icy version of the frosty then you could leave the ice cream out or add ice cubes when you are blending.
  • Softening the ice cream can help to get the right consistency.

Storage

Wendy’s Frosty is best kept in the freezer and then adding the ice cream and milk in a blender when ready to serve. You will want to enjoy your Wendys frosty as soon as it is made.

However, you can preserve it at different stages such as in ice cubes, an airtight container, or a freezer-safe container and then you can make the wendy’s frosty on demand.

We like to make ours in a mason jar and then enjoy it when we are ready.

FAQ

Is Wendy’s frosty a milkshake or ice cream?

This is all down to your own personal preference. It was never described as a milkshake on the menu, but in our opinion, the combination of milk and ice cream makes it a milkshake. But it is down to your own interpretation.

What are the ingredients in a Wendy’s frosty?

These are the ingredients in a Wendy’s frosty you would get in a restaurant and can be found on Wendy’s menu.

  • Chocolate Frosty Water
  • Sugar
  • Powdered MILK
  • Sunflower Creamer [Sunflower Oil, Maltodextrin, MILK Protein, Emulsifier (E471), Antioxidant (E306)]
  • Whey (MILK)
  • Cocoa Powder (3.7%)
  • Stabiliser (E412)
  • Flavoring (Flavouring, Dextrose)
  • Carrageenan [Stabiliser (E407)
  • Dextrin], Stabiliser (E415)

While I am not saying that this homemade version of Wendy’s frosty is healthy, given there is heavy cream and ice cream involved, the ingredients used are healthier and you are avoiding all of the artificial ingredients that go into the original. Same great taste though, so you can’t argue with that.

What do I serve with the Wendy’s frosty?

Enjoy it as a sweet dessert, or make some homemade burgers and French fries for an authentic meal.

Can I use homemade ice cream?

Sure! It will help you to be more aware of the ingredients and what has been added to your homemade frosty.
