Apple Pie Smoothie Mason Jars

Creamy and full of hearty oats, this Apple Pie Smoothie will have your mornings off to a fantastic start! Sprinkle on top a few blueberries or strawberries and have yourself a power breakfast in a jar.

Apple Protein smoothie jars are one of our go-to breakfast blends before my workouts!

Heavy enough to withstand cardio, but delicate enough to not make us double over, this cool brew is worth the 5-minute prep.

Smoothies have always been a favorite of ours, but we were getting tired of the usual veggie and fruit blends.

We wanted something flavorful, but still nutritious, that left us feeling light and peppy.

Apple Pie Smoothie Mason Jars Are Perfect For

  • Breakfast
  • Brunch
  • Pre-Workout Snack
  • Post-Workout Snack
  • Gifts
  • Children Desserts

Now the first time we attempted to make these jars, we originally used almond milk and left out the yogurt. On a day that grocery shopping was out of the question, we convinced ourself to try adding in the yogurt- and truth be told, it was the best decision ever!

We love the creaminess of this blend. The taste of the vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg mixture is picked up after adding in the honey.

Then with the infusion of the yogurt and sliced apple, your tastebuds do a little bit of a jig because they are so happy.

If you’re looking to switch up your regular protein pre-workout blend, we seriously recommend these easy smoothies! Satisfying and long-lasting, they make an excellent treat for your morning run or circuit training.

Oats Info

We LOVE rolled oats because of their versatility!

Whether we’re making oatmeal, granola, or overnight oat cups, rolled oats have mixed extremely well with anything we choose to throw at it.

Oats are bland by themselves, which makes them the perfect base to build flavor upon.

And when building the flavors in these jars, we found that you should not overdo it. The oats will soak in the ingredients causing them to expand.

This means adding in too many sweeteners or too much greek yogurt can leave you with more servings than anticipated. But if you’re looking to save some for later you can place any extras in a separate mason jar and immediately refrigerate.

Apple oatmeal smoothies are great to enjoy now and are even better to enjoy later, once they’ve had some time to soak up alllll the flavors.

Apple and Cinnamon Smoothie Tips

  • Don’t overdo the oats, they’ll soak and pull all the flavors together and increase your serving size.
  • Don’t add too much greek yogurt or you’ll think your smoothie out and end up with a smoothie overflow.
  • Make too much for one jar? Grab another jar or two and fill them up for later. Store them in the refrigerator.
  • Don’t fill the entire jar up with your smoothie mixture unless you plan on consuming right away as the oats will expand and could overflow your jar.
  • Don’t overblend your smoothie or it will get too watery, liquidy and runny.
  • This smoothie is on the thick side, if you prefer yours to be more liquidy use ½ Cup milk instead of ¼ cup.
  • We used pink lady apples but it works great with honeycrisp apples too! You can use whatever apples you have, see our apple suggestions below.

Apple Cinnamon Smoothie Variations

  • Want to make your Apple Pie Smoothie Vegan? You can easily make a Vegan Apple Pie Smoothie by changing your milk choice to something dairy free, like oatmilk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc. Omit the honey or use maple syrup instead for your sweetener and trade out the greek yogurt for a dairy free alternative yogurt and BOOM- delicious Vegan Apple Cinnamon Smoothie!
  • Apple Pie Smoothie Bowl – If you are wanting a bowl rather than a smoothie drink, don’t use your blender for EVERYTHING. Start with your yogurt in a bowl or jar as the base. Blend apples, oats, milk and spices together. Add that mixture to your yogurt bowl. Drizzle with honey and add apple chunks if you want on top. Enjoy. This recipe sounds so good, it may become it’s own post, so stay tuned.
  • Apple Grape Smoothie– This recipe is super easy, make the original recipe as you normally would but before you blend it all together, add in some grapes and then blend.
  • Apple Pear Smoothie– Easy to make here, just add some pears into your blender as well and we recommend adding a few pear slices or chunks on top too.
  • Apple Cider Smoothie– Perfect fall rendition of this smoothie recipe. All you need to do is add some apple cider into your mixture before you blend it all smooth.
  • Apple Greens Smoothie– This is another healthy smoothie option that you can’t go wrong with. Add in a scoop or two of your favorite Greens and really pack this smoothie with an extra health boost.
  • Apple Spinach Smoothie– This is our favorite way to hide some extra veggies in our kids diet. You blend it up so smooth they won’t be able to taste it or see the spinach in there. A great way to make sure your kiddos are getting in all their veggie servings each day.
  • Apple and Mango Smoothie– Just thinking of this combo makes us think of our Mango Margarita recipe. YUM. Just add some frozen mango chunks in your apple drink today adn you’ll really have a great fruity blend.
  • Apple Strawberry Smoothie– This is one of the kiddos fave combos right here. Just add some strawberries with the rest of your smoothie mixture into your blender and enjoy every sip.
  • Add in Healthy Options– Pick any of these options for a healthy addition to your healthy apple smoothie. Try: Chia Seeds, Hemp Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, or Flax Seeds.
  • Replace your milk with unsweetened apple sauce for some extra apple flavor!
  • Add a scoop of nuts for some extra plant based proteins- think cashews, peanuts, pecans or almonds. You can add these into the blender or you can sprinkle on top.
  • Try and drizzle some of our homemade Apple Crisp Syrup on or in your smoothie. This is a Starbucks inspired recipe that they use in their apple crisp macchiato, so it’s delish!

What Kind Of Apples To Use?

Use whatever apples you have on hand. If you want more of a sweet apple, try a Fuji, Gala or Honeycrisp. If you want more of a tart apple, try a Granny Smith or McIntosh apple. If you only have tart apples but want a sweeter smoothie, add in more of your sweetener of choice.

We used Pink Lady Apples which are yummy as well.

Can You Use Regular Yogurt?

Absolutely. If you prefer traditional yogurt or don’t have greek yogurt on hand, by all means, use your yogurt.

Remember that Greek yogurt isn’t just a good source of calcium, but it’s also good for protein and probiotics, so if you’re teeter-tottering between the two, that may help you make your decision.

How Do You Make An Apple Pie Protein Smoothie?

Want to kick your classic Apple Smoothie up a notch? Go ahead and grab your favorite protein powder and toss a scoop in the blender. Enjoy your protein smoothie when you need it.

Keep in mind that Greek Yogurt usually has a decent amount of protein in it already, making this alone a good source of protein. So, check your yogurt nutrition facts and find out if you need to add your favorite protein or not.

Do You Peel Apple For Smoothie?

For this recipe, if you’re following the directions, we recommend peeling the apples. But, this is not a MUST. If you want to add more fiber to your smoothie, leave the skin on your apple when chopping.

Can You Use Frozen Apples?

You can use frozen apple chunks rather than fresh apples. This may change the consistency of your smoothie. Use with caution.

Smoothie Meal Prep

Once you’ve made your smoothies, you can add them to your mason jars, making sure not to completely fill them in case they expand some while setting. Place the lid and ring on and put smoothie in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy it later.
