Ingredients to make homemade butter from scratch.

How To Make Homemade Garlic Butter

  1. Start by adding the heavy cream to your stand mixer with the whisk attachment on Medium speed for 3 minutes. Cream will start to whip up and begin to thicken.
  2. After your cream has started to thicken, increase the mixer speed to High and whisk for another 5 minutes or until butter starts to form in the whisk and starts to separate from the buttermilk.
  3. Cover the mixing bowl with Bees Wrap or plastic wrap to avoid splashing.
  4. After butter has formed, use your cheesecloth to strain the buttermilk away from the butter. Using the cheesecloth, form the butter into a ball and drain the buttermilk. Save the buttermilk in a mason jar to use in a different recipe later (perhaps to make Pancakes with your Pancake mix)
  5. Place butter back into the mixing bowl, add butter, fresh parsley and garlic. Remove the thyme from the stems and add to the butter mixture as well. Mix in the stand mixer for 2 minutes.
  6. Now you'll have a soft butter and you can form it into a log using Bees Wrap or just store right in your Mason Jar for serving later. However you store it, refrigerate it to harden form slightly before you use it.

What Is DIY Butter

This homemade butter recipe is fantastic. You create homemade butter first and then add herbs and garlic to bring a rich, delicious flavor to your classic butter. Our favorite way to use a homemade stick of butter is to lather it on a fresh made loaf of french bread.

You can add Garlic Butter to almost anything and make the dish taste even more incredible.

Easy Recipe Variations

  • Add a pinch of kosher salt to bring even more herb and garlic flavor from your homemade butter.
  • Add a dash of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to bring some real Italian rich flavor to this delicious topping.
  • Add some shredded parmesan cheese or parmesan powder to your butter as it's forming for extra flavor.
  • Want some heat? Add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
  • Add some of this to your white rice for the perfect recipe side dish.
  • Add a pad of this to your favorite steak recipes, it's the easy way to reallllly bring them to a whole new level.
  • Use fresh grown herbs from your indoor garden for the most flavorful homemade garlic herb butter.

How Long Does Garlic Butter From Scratch Last?

If you store your Garlic and Herb Butter for later use in an airtight container, like your Mason Jar as we suggested, it will keep for about 2 months in the refrigerator.

Our house has yet to have our butter last that long though. We want to slather everything in this amazing butter and hope you do too.

Can You Freeze Garlic Butter with Herbs?

You sure can freeze garlic butter for up to 6 months if stored properly in an airtight container.

When you're ready to use your butter, pull it out of the freezer and place it in the fridge to thaw overnight.

Always remember that room temperature, softened butter slathers on a toasted bagel bread and things easier than fridge temp butter.

Make a few extra batches and freeze them to have the best butter from scratch later on.
