Recipe Variations

Don’t want to use lime tonic water? You can use club soda, soda water, or seltzer water instead. The tonic water flavored with lime gives it a great flavor, but you can also use normal tonic water if you prefer.

Can’t get hold of fresh limes or fresh lime juice? If you need to you can use Simply Limeade or even some concentrated bottled lime juice instead.

Make it a classic. You could add some sugar to the rim of the mason jars to give this mojito a classic finish. The sugar helps to balance the sharp flavors.

Tips & Tricks

  • You could freeze the lime wheels so that they help the cocktail to stay ice cold.
  • You don’t need a cocktail shaker for this recipe, but you can use one if you wish. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker you can use the mason jar and the lid, or even two glasses, making sure one is slightly smaller than the other.

Storage

This is a cocktail that is best served immediately. The bubbles in the tonic will start to fade over time. You can seal the mason jars and store in the refrigerator for a little while, but be mindful that you won’t get the same level of flavor.

FAQ

Can this be made without alcohol?

Sure it can! Just remove the alcoholic elements and then add a touch of blue food coloring to get the desired look. It will make a lime and minty drink that is still very refreshing.

What can I use instead of tonic?

Not everyone is a fan of tonic water, even if it is flavored. So you could look to use Simply Limeade or even a seltzer water or club soda. You will still get the lime flavors thanks to the addition of the fresh lime juice.

What rum should I use for this recipe?

You can use whatever light white rum you like. Pick your preferred brand. White rum is best because of the addition of the blue curacao.
