Recipe Variations

Want to create a Dole Whip float? Simply fill a mason jar halfway with pineapple juice, followed by some of your favorite homemade Dole Whip, and top it off with a maraschino cherry. Sip and enjoy this fantastic float.

Fancy creating the dole whip swirl? You’ll need to freeze the mixture for about 30-40 minutes, then transfer it to a piping bag with a 1M “star” tip.

Not a fan of pineapple chunks? Then you could try different dole whip flavors. Pineapple is the iconic flavor but you could use the same method with different fruit flavors. Mango, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and apples could all work well. You’d easily create some delicious Dole Whip variations. Banana dole whips, Strawberry Dole Whips, Blueberry Dole Whips, and even Apple Dole Whips would all be wonderful desserts to enjoy.

Can I make a citrus swirl? You could try and make a citrus swirl by combining two different whip flavors together. Dole whip orange and pineapple work really well. In fact, you can usually get this kind of treat at the normal places you can get a classic Dole Whip, just like you would at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort or anywhere else you’d normally find this. At the polynesian resort you can also find a dole whip vanilla swirl- another perfect combo dessert.

Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure you are using a powerful blender. Pineapple isn’t the easiest to blend down to the consistency that you need to create the copycat dole whip recipe.
  • Ensure you give the recipe proper time for freezing. It needs at least six hours, but if you can, pop it in the freezer overnight. Properly freezing this treat will make it the perfect consistency. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.
  • If you want to keep this genuine then you may want to stick with the traditional pineapple flavor. However, don’t be afraid to experiment and try different flavors. Disney is not the only place where you can enjoy this soft serve treat.

This is a recipe that requires freezing, so naturally, the best storage method is to leave it in the freezer. You can leave it in the container or bag you chose to freeze it in or transfer it to another bag or air-tight container to leave frozen until you need it. You can also use a mason jar or any other airtight container and freeze it for up to 3-6 months.

Remove the treat and let it sit at room temperature to thaw for a bit until it reaches your desired consistency.

What is a dole whip?

For those who are unsure what a dole whip is or haven’t been to Disneyland or Disney World, here is exactly what a Dole Whip is. Dole Whip is pineapple-flavored soft-serve ice cream.

It was originally created by the fruit company and then was sold in Disney at the tIKI bar in 1986.

These days it is available in other Disney locations and has even developed its own cult following where people will queue for hours to enjoy one on a hot day.

Is dole whip healthy?

It is relatively low-calorie so you don’t have to worry too much about this being unhealthy. Obviously, as long as it is enjoyed in moderation. It also has fruit in the recipe, however, you should be aware of the sugar content in this dessert if you are conscious of sugar in your daily diet.

While I’m not saying it’s a healthy dessert, it is a healthier option to choose from versus many other store-bought desserts available, especially those with all of the additives and preservatives.

With this being a semi-homemade dessert, you will find far fewer additives and preservatives in our homemade Dole Whip Recipe.

Where can you find a dole whip at Walt Disney World Resort?

There are many different locations where you will be able to get a dole pineapple whip. But the best option in the Magic Kingdom park is Aloha Isle Refreshments in Adventureland.

Look for it next to the Tiki Room and Aladdin’s Magic Carpet rides. It is the most popular place to get your hands on a Dole Whip at Disney World.

Where can you find a Dole Whip at Disney Land?

The Tiki Juice Bar is the place the Dole Whip was first served and is still the most popular location at Disneyland to enjoy a Dole Whip. You can also get some variations of the Dole Whip at The Tropical Hideaway on the banks of the Jungle Cruise attraction which is behind the enchanted Tiki Room.

Be aware that you may find extensive lines filled with people anxiously awaiting to order one of these pineapple treats, hence why we absolutely love making this treat at home- no lines needed! Just a few minutes of putting together this tasty treat.

Are there different flavors of this dessert?

Yes, there are plenty of different flavors you can try. There are some great suggestions in the recipe variations section if you are looking for some inspiration.

You can’t ignore the taste and yumminess of the classic dole whip. But, feel free to try any of the variations or create your own flavors. If you find a new favorite, feel free to share your creation ideas in the comments section below.

How to make a dairy-free dole whip?

Yes, you can! Just swap out the ice cream for coconut milk instead. Making it the perfect vegan dessert to enjoy. You could also add some coconut-flavored syrup for a different taste sensation. This is a great substitution to make if you are following a dairy free diet and are wanting a Dairy Free Dole Whip!

Where else can you enjoy dole whip cups?

You will find that you can enjoy the dole whips throughout all of the different Disney attractions. You can enjoy them on the Disney cruise line, the theme parks, and specific areas like Hollywood studios or Disney’s Polynesian Village resort.

What other flavors of dole whip will I find?

You might find that you can get your hands on an orange dole whip and a lime dole whip. There are many different flavors you can get. You could also enjoy a pineapple float which many people enjoy. Every day is a dole whip day when you are in Disney.

Can I make an adult-only version?

Yes of course. I would suggest things like vodka, spiced rum or white rum would work well with the dole whip pineapple flavor and consistency. It really is a wonderful frozen treat that works well for everyone. If you’re looking for a Dole Whip cocktail, you could easily add any of your favorite spirits to the blender when you’re blending everything together and craft the perfect dessert cocktail to enjoy.
