What Wine To Use In The Holiday Red Fruity Sangria

With this Sangria recipe, we recommend using a fruity red wine choice. When going to the liquor store to get your bottle of wine and brandy, you can always ask the people who work there for suggestions.

Tell them what you want to use this wine for and ALWAYS give them your budget price point. They’ll help point you in the direction of which wine you should try.

Keep in mind the fruit you want to pair with it and the quality of the wine that you choose can make a difference in the overall taste of your fruity sangria recipe.

What Is Sangria?

Sangria is a cocktail drink that came from Portugal and Spain. This alcoholic beverage usually consists of wine, a sweetener, liqueur and some kind of soda or carbonated mixer.

Variations And Tips

  • Add other fruit depending on your wine choice: Some wines may pair well with additional fruits like pomegranates, pears and maybe even cranberries.
  • Trade wine- swap your wine out for a different type of wine or flavor of it. If you’re interested, you could make a white whine sangria and trade the fruits. You could also do a peach sangria recipe too.
  • Swap Brandy– we used E&J Brandy but you can use whatever you have on hand or whatever you prefer. You can even used flavored Brandy to bring in an even more delicious sangria.
  • Seltzer or Flavored Water Swap– You can easily use a flavored seltzer too. We’ve even tried a ginger ale or Sprite for a different taste.
  • Add a little Grand Marnier – for a real treat add a dash or two of it.
  • Add Apple Crisp syrup- to really add some more apple flavor and to enhance the cinnamon, add some of our new Apple Brown Sugar Simple syrup to your sangria.
  • Try our Caramel Apple Cider Sangria recipe! YUM – a real treat.

Is Sangria Gluten Free?

Typically Sangria is gluten free. Make sure to check the labels of your wine and brandy of choice to be on the safe side.

Can I Use Different Apples?

You can use different apples or whatever fruit you have on hand. It may bring out different fruity flavors that you didn’t know you would enjoy.

How Long Do You Soak Fruit In Sangria?

The longer the better, the more flavor they infuse into the Sangria drink. That’s one of the reasons we recommend to make it and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight.

How Long Does Homemade Christmas Sangria Last?

Stored in a container in the refrigerator, Sangria will last about 3-4 days before it starts tasting bad.

Can You Freeze Sangria?

Oh my gosh, yes! Not only can you freeze homemade Sangria, but it freezes amazingly well. And we highly recommend freezing it and then enjoying it as a slushie later. So good and such a fun way to enjoy your Christmas Red Sangria. Just make sure to remove your fruit before freezing.

Frozen Sangria is good for about 4 months in the freezer.
