What Are Cake Mix Cookies?
Cake mix cookies are cookies made with boxed cake mix as the base of the recipe. You can vary and add various things to it to change it up and make many kinds and flavors of cookies. But, the base of the recipe always involves some kind of cake mix (can be boxed or homemade cake mix in a jar).
Variations, Tips & Tricks
- When baking the cookies you can use heart sprinkles or use red gel to decorate with little hearts as well.
- Using a cookie scoop to get the dough out is easier and makes a uniform cookie appearance.
- Don’t overbake your cookies. These cake mix cookies have a thicker dough but they cook quickly.
- This easy cookie mix recipe uses white cake mix as the base because it’s the easiest to dye green. However, you can swap this out and get yummy cookies with vanilla or yellow cake mix too- it just might turn a different shade of green than you expected.
- If you’re having trouble getting the powdered sugar to stick to the cookies, mix a little bit of cornstarch slurry in with it and it will help it stick but you won’t taste it.

Do You Store This Cookie Mix?
Store it in your Grinch Decorated Mason Jar. We think it’s best stored in a dark, cool place, like in a kitchen cupboard.
How Long Does The Cookie Mix Last?
As long as you’re using fresh ingredients when making the mix, this mix is good for about 6-8 months or as long as the expiration date on the cake mix box if using a boxed mix. This may last longer depending on the ingredients used shelf life.
How Long Are Baked Grinch Cookies Good For?
Once you bake them, we suggest to enjoy them within 2-3 days or they’ll start to harden. If leaving on the counter, store in an air tight container (like another mason jar!)
Honestly, each year when we make these Grinch cookies, they never last more than 2 days in our house, lucky if more than a few hours 😉
