How To Make The Homemade Fortune Cookies
- One of the first things you will want to do is gather all of your ingredients together and preheat your oven to 340 degrees Fahrenheit. You need the oven to be at the optimum temperature.
- In a medium mixing bowl combine the egg whites, sugar, vanilla, water, oil, and salt. Take time to whisk all of the ingredients together.
- Once they are combined add half the flour and half the cornstarch to the wet mixture. Make sure everything is mixed well.
- Once done you can add the rest of the cornstarch and flour. Make sure you mix thoroughly so that everything is well incorporated.
- Place the silicone mat or the parchment paper, whichever you are using, on a baking sheet.
- Spoon about 1 ½ teaspoons of the fortune cookie batter onto the mat and use the back of a spoon to smooth batter into a 3-inch circle.
- Repeat this method. You will only want to make around 6 fortune cookies in one go because they need space on the prepared baking sheet.
- Place in the preheated oven for 9-10 minutes. You will know they are ready once the edges of the cookies go a golden brown.
- Create some space in your kitchen for the cupcake pan and cup needed to create the fortune cookies when they are done baking.
- Remove from the oven and flip each of the hot cookies over on its backside.
- Once done, pick up the cookie, and if you are doing so place the fortune in the missile. Then fold in half horizontally.
- Take the cup you have and while holding the top center of the fortune cookie, bend it in half again using the edge of a cup.
- To help ensure the fortune cookies keep their shape, add them to your cupcake pan or muffin tin and then allow to cool for at least 30 minutes.
- While you are waiting for the fortune cookies to harden you can begin to prepare the chocolate. Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave at 30 seconds burst, stirring in between to ensure it doesn’t burn or turn bitter in taste.
- If you have any remaining batter you can follow the process again to make more fortune cookies while dealing with the first batch.
- Add your melted chocolate to a piping bag and cut the end off.
- Place the hardened fortune cookies on parchment paper and drizzle half of each fortune cookie with some of the melted chocolate.
- You can then add sprinkles on top of each cookie to finish decorating.
- Give the cookies and chocolate time to set. This could take around 10 minutes. Then dig in and enjoy your homemade fortune cookies.
