How To Make The Instant Pot Strawberry Yogurt

  1. Add milk to the Instant Pot and seal the lid and pressure valve. Select boil function and set timer for 30 minutes.
  2. Once the timer finishes, make sure the milk temperature has reached 180°F, if not, set Instant Pot to sauté function to bring it up to the proper temperature.
  3. Remove the Instant Pot liner and let it cool to 105°F. Use a candy thermometer or meat thermometer to ensure temperature accuracy. If you need to speed this up, place the Instant Pot liner in an ice bath in the sink using only 3 inches of water.
  4. Once the milk is at the appropriate temp, remove any film that may have formed on top.
  5. Use a measuring cup to remove 1 cup of milk and mix well with yogurt and vanilla in a large mixing bowl.
  6. Add this mixture back to the milk in the Instant Pot liner and seal the lid and pressure valve again.
  7. Set the pot to yogurt mode for 8 hours.
  8. Once the 8 hours are done, remove the liner, cover it with plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and place it in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Once chilled, yogurt should be thick enough to stand a spoon upright.
  10. Dice strawberries and place them under or on top of yogurt for serving.
  11. Top with granola and or honey for a sweeter taste if desired.

Recipe Variations

Want to sweeten the yogurt? Stirring in some honey, maple syrup or a little sugar will sweeten this up no end!

Don’t want to use strawberries? Any fruit will do. Apples, bananas, other berries, you can use what you have or what is tickling your tastebuds! A food processor can help make a great puree. You could also look to choose seasonal fruit depending on the time of year.

Tips & Tricks

  • If possible, leave the yogurt in the refrigerator overnight once the 8 hours are completed in the Instant Pot. This will help you to get the desired thickness and consistency.
  • For this recipe, we used a 6qt Instant Pot, but this recipe will work with an 8qt if you have one.
  • Frozen fruit makes it a little easier to add to the yogurt.
  • An ice cream scoop is a great way to distribute your Instant Pot yogurt recipe in portions into your Mason Jars.

Storage

When it comes to your Instant Pot Strawberry Yogurt, you will need to store it in the refrigerator in airtight containers or a sealed mason jar is a good way to store it.

It will last for around 2 weeks. You can also choose to freeze the strawberry yogurt.

However, it can change the texture overall. If you do freeze it then make sure you defrost the yogurt in the refrigerator overnight. Or perhaps enjoy some frozen yogurt instead?

FAQ

Why didn’t my instant pot yogurt thicken?

The Instant Pot should thicken your yogurt beautifully, but if you find there is a bit of an issue with it, then you can strain the whey and give it a stir to see if that helps.

If it hasn’t thickened then it could be that it has been left to ferment for too long or the temperature was too high when you moved on to the next stage.

How long does DIY yogurt last?

Homemade yogurt made in the Instant Pot will last in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.

It can last longer, but you will find that the consistency thins and it may have a tangier taste. This will be the same as to whether you have chosen to make a plain yogurt or one with the added fruit.

Is it cheaper to make your own yogurt?

It does work out cost-effective to make your own yogurt, especially if you are a family that eats a lot of it. The savings will depend on the type of milk you use and your flavorings or additions, but overall it will work out cheaper per serving.

It will also encourage healthy eating as there is no added sugar.

What else can I do with the instant pot strawberry yogurt?

There are many different things you can do with your homemade yogurt. You could look to create strawberry yogurt popsicles to enjoy on a hot summer day.

Or make a strawberry yogurt smoothie for a great start to the day. You could add other things to it like a little honey for sweetness or some protein powder after a workout.
