What Is Pumpkin Butter?
Great question guys. This is a fall-flavored spread. Have you ever tried the ever-popular, Instant Pot Apple Butter recipe (that we shared in our digital cookbook?) Well, this is just as amazing but is a pumpkin flavored spread to put on all your fall pastries and breads…. and anything else you want to put it on.
We won’t judge if you want to eat it by the spoonful like we want to!

Recipe Variations
- Pumpkin Apple Butter: Combine two widly popular fall flavors and types of fall butter into one delicious butter recipe. When making your pumpkin seed butter recipe, add in apples too and whip it all together.
- Trade store-bought pumpkin puree for homemade puree!
- Want more of a whipped pumpkin butter? Use an electric mixer to whip everything together- no need for the Instant Pot.
- Swap apple cider for hard apple cider (if only adults consuming) or apple juice.
- Trade sweeteners– instead of white sugar, try extra brown sugar, coconut sugar, agave, maple syrup or honey.
- Add a dash of homemade pumpkin spice syrup.
- Drizzle a bit of this butter on your Pumpkin Parfaits.

FAQs
No way y’all! Pumpkin Puree is just that. But homemade pumpkin spread has pumpkin puree and other yumminess mixed in, like, apple cider, pumpkin spice and vanilla extract (and more).
Nope! We tricked ya 😉 It has butter in it’s name because it’s a spread like butter.

Storage Information
How Do You Store DIY Pumpkin Butter?
Even though this is a dairy-free pumpkin butter recipe, it’s still perishable, so we recommend storing your homemade butter in a Mason Jar and storing it in a refrigerator.
Can You Freeze Homemade Pumpkin Butter?
You sure can! Make sure to label it and mark when to use by. Safely, pumpkin butter can be frozen for 6-9 months. Store it next to your homemade Pumpkin Cinnamon ice cream.
We have also seen people freeze it in ice cube trays to make little individual servings and then once they’re frozen, pop them out and put in an air-tight container or bag in the freezer for easier storing and using.
ALWAYS make sure to label your items in your freezer and use our FREE freezer inventory sheet so you don’t lose track of when things need to be used by and what you actually have on hand in your freezer.
Can You Pressure Can Pumpkin Butter?
Unfortunately, The National Center for Home Food Preservation recommends AGAINST home canning pumpkin butter. They say it is not safe to can via pressure canner or water bath.
They recommend freezing it for proper food storage, as we mentioned how to freeze pumpkin butter above.
