Mason Jar Size: Salads Recipe Rules

What Mason Jar size? Salad recipes should be a breeze to use! In fact, if you are deciding on a diet, wanting to eat healthy or just want better control of your lifestyle, a mason jar salad for lunch is perfect. Don’t even get me started on the convenience of the jar containers. Perfect size and perfect for the environment as you can reuse the jars again and again. Only needing a quick wash in-between.

Mason Jar Size: What Jar to Use for Salad

The typical mason jar salad is for one person. However, that’s not the only portion available. You can also make a batch of salads, salads for two and even salads for the entire family. So how do you decide what jar to use? There’s a simple formula!

If you’ve been worried on exactly how to do this, let me put your mind at ease – it’s super easy. Typically, all recipes share how much it will serve. And you can follow that, but when you start using mason jars on a regular basis, you will be able to eyeball the right amount of ingredients.

One thing to remember is mason jar salads are primarily packed with vegetables (there are some meals with meat and other ingredients) so when you pack the jars, the uneven aspect of the items comes with the territory. All you need to do is firmly push down the ingredients as you pack them

Mason Jar Salad for One: 8 ounce Jar

Depending on the time of day, you might find an 8 ounce jar the perfect size for your meal. If you’re looking for a little bit bigger place for dinner, a 16 ounce jar might be better. However, for the most part, you will find that an 8 ounce jar for lunch is the perfect size!

Mason Jar Salad for Two: 16 Ounce Jar

Typically, a 16 ounce jar is perfect for a two-fer mason jar salad. It will have just enough ingredients to split it evenly and enjoy. There is nothing better than sharing a meal with another!

Family Mason Jar Salad Size: 32 ounce Jar

The perfect size for a family size mason jar is 32 ounces. You will see the leafy parts of the salad might be a little tight inside the glass, but for a family of four or five individuals, this is a great size.

Smaller Mason Jars for Side Dishes and Pasta Salads

Those smaller, wide mouth mason jars typically come in 4 or 6 ounces and they definitely are perfect for adding a salad to a main meal. Also, if you are serving pasta salad, it’s the perfect size too!

In Closing

One of the main reasons I love mason jar salads is portion control. Once it’s gone, the meal time is over. You can use any size jar you please for meals, but when considering how to cut calories the smaller the jar, the better.
