🥣 Helpful Tips

  • Don’t skimp on chilling! It really does need a little bit of time in the fridge for all the flavors to combine perfectly.
  • You control how thick or thin this dip is so the texture is truly up to you.
  • Always store your dip in an air-tight container, we obviously love using a Mason Jar and think storing just about everything in one of those is the perfect way to store anything, haha.
  • Don’t let this sit out of the refrigerator for longer than 2 hours for food safety.

🍲 Recipe Variations

Here are some small changes you can easily do to change up the texture and flavor of this dip.

Use Greek yogurt – While sour cream and Greek yogurt are similar, you may actually enjoy the taste and texture of the yogurt more.

Add different seasonings – Mix and match and play with the seasonings!

🍴 FAQ

What’s the difference between Mexican Ranch and Mexican Ranchero Sauce?

There are two main differences. Ranchero sauce is going to be red in color, while this ranch recipe is white.

Also, making a ranchero sauce requires more of a tomato-based approach and tends to be a bit on the spicier side.

Both options go great with Mexican food.

Where did Mexican ranch come from?

Stories have it that this white dip was made back in the ’50s by a rancher named Steve Henson. It didn’t become popular till the 1980s in the United States.

Steve made it at his guest ranch and the guests there ranted and raved about it. It just took some time to get it out to the public, but once it did, nobody could get their hands off this great tasting Mexican ranch.

Can you freeze ranch dressing?

We don’t recommend freezing ranch dressing because the ingredients won’t thaw very well and will likely “break” and have a different texture and consistency.

Does ranch dressing go bad?

Yes, ranch dressing can go bad! This is why we recommend making it fresh and eating it within a few days for the best results.
