⏰ How to Make New Years Eve Countdown Clock Rice Krispie Treats
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt the butter over medium heat, in a medium saucepan.
- Add the marshmallows to the saucepan with the butter, and stir constantly until all is melted and mixed.
- Add rice krispies to a bowl and pour the melted marshmallows over top. Mix together.
- Carefully butter your hands, or spray with non stick spray so it’s easier to work with the cereal mixture.
- Grab a handful of the rice krispy mixture and roll into a 3×3-inch ball and then flatten them out some with your hands.
- After making all the clock face balls and all of the rice krispy mix is used, insert a lollipop into each flattened circle.
- In a microwave safe mixing bowl, melt the dark chocolate chips using 30-second intervals, mixing in between each interval until fully melted.
- Pour the chocolate into a piping bag and snip the end of the bag.
- Use the piping bag full of chocolate, create a clock face on each circular rice krispie treat, writing a 12, 3, 6, and 9 in the designated spots on the treats.
- Place 2 dots in between each number as well as a short arrow (as the clock hands) pointing at the 12 and a long arrow pointing about a centimeter before the 12.
- Set the treats in the refrigerator to let the chocolate harden for 5 minutes.
- Enjoy your clock countdown treats.

Storage
Leftover rice krispie treats should be stored in an airtight container or a zip top bag and keep them at room temperature in a cool, dry space. Don’t leave them in a warm area where the chocolate could melt.
These decorated treats should last about 4-5 days if they are properly stored.

Recipe Variations
These treats are really easy to make and we have a few other fun variations to try with these countdown clock treats.
Add sprinkles. Add some fun sprinkles to the rice krispie and marshmallow treat mix before you mix and shape them into the proper round face.
Add ribbons or decorations. Make them extra festive by adding some curling ribbon to the lollipop stick.
Change the color of the melting chocolate. We used dark chocolate to melt, but you can use any chocolate melting wafers in any color or flavor to dress up the clock even more.

Tips and Tricks
- This recipe makes 24-30 rice krispie treat clocks depending on how big or thick you make them.
- If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, you can use a spatula to mix your rice krispie and marshmallows together, but your hands is the easiest way to make sure that it all gets evenly incorporated and mixed together well. This is also the perfect time to get the kids involved, so many love fun activities like getting their hands dirty. It’s always our kids favorite things to do!
- You can use these treats as prizes for the best person on the dance floor at your New Year’s Eve bash, or hand them out as party favors! Or, just serve them as dessert after your New Year’s eve dinner as you wait for the midnight countdown.
- Using your hands is the easiest way to shape these treats. However, you can use a cookie cutter to make them into perfect circles if needed.
