How To Make The Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

  1. Gather all of your ingredients together and preheat the oven to 425F. Using a whisk, combine the brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Open each can of biscuits and separate the rolls from each other. Using a sharp knife or kitchen scissors cut each roll in half. Place rolls of one-half in each mason jar.
  3. Pour one tablespoon of the brown sugar mixture over the first half of the cinnamon roll. Add a few of the chopped pecans on top of the pecans and then add the 2nd half of the roll on top, inside of the jar. Add another teaspoon of the brown sugar mixture on top of the second piece.
  4. Pour equal amounts of heavy whipping cream over the roll pieces in each jar.
  5. Place each jar on a baking sheet and bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  6. When they are done baking, remove them from the oven and the baking sheet to allow cool on a wire rack for approximately 5-10 minutes.
  7. For the best results top each set of rolls while they are still slightly warm rolls but not hot with the premade icing that came with the rolls. Serve up and enjoy!

Recipe Variations

Want to add some different toppings? Caramel sauce or powdered sugar would work really well and taste delicious. You could also use the traditional cream cheese frosting. Yum!

Make them sweeter. If you have a sweet tooth then you could add some maple syrup between the layers or drizzle some on top when they are baked. This would make maple pecan cinnamon rolls.

More cinnamon flavor. You could always sprinkle some of the homemade cinnamon sugar on the top before baking. This will give the cinnamon rolls a glaze.

A citrus twist. The addition of lemon or orange zest will give that extra citrus flavor that works so well with the cinnamon flavors.

Storage

A great way to make the most of this recipe is to make these ahead of time for the next morning or the next day. Just get to the stage of when you need to put them in the oven and then seal them in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator.

You could also store baked cinnamon rolls in the same way. Leave them in a warm place until you want to enjoy them. If they are leftovers let them cool completely before storing them. They will last for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Put them in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

FAQ

What’s the difference between cinnamon rolls and cinnamon buns?

The main difference is how they cooked. When looking for a homemade sticky buns recipe you will notice that you add the glaze during the cooking process. But the rolls have the glaze and toppings put on after baking.

What does the heavy cream do?

The heavy cream gives the cinnamon rolls a rich flavor and helps create a more buttery roll. We add a tablespoon to each mason jar in this recipe but some recipes call for the rolls to be soaked in heavy cream.

How do I keep the cinnamon rolls fluffy?

Storage is key. An airtight container like a sealed mason jar helps to keep the moisture inside and stops the rolls from drying out and the texture from changing.
