How To Make Hot Chocolate Bombs Snowman Version

  1. Start by microwaving the white candy melts in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave according to the directions on the package.
  2. Using the back of a spoon and in one thin layer, coat the silicone mold with the melted white chocolate.
  3. Place in freezer for 10 minutes then remove and inspect. If you have any see through areas, coat them again in white chocolate and freeze for another 10 minutes. Only coat the thinner areas, you don’t want your bomb to be too thick.
  4. Once you establish they’re coated appropriately, slowly remove them from the mold by flipping the mold over and popping them out slowly. Place them on a plate.
  5. Using a saucepan on low heat, place one side of the circle bomb with the rim down onto the pan. This will start to lightly melt and even the edges. Quickly add 2 Tablespoons of Hot Chocolate Mix and Marshmallows.
  6. Melt the rim of a second dome to make the other half of the bomb and place them together evenly. This will seal them together.
  7. Use a brush and dip it in the melted choclate, add a bit to the confetti sprinkles and place them in the shape of a half moon for the mouth and then add some on for the yes. Using the melted chocolate will help the sprinkles stick as they dry.
  8. Microwave the orange candy melts and use a brush to brush on a carrot shaped nose.
  9. Let the decorated bombs dry and when ready to enjoy, serve in a jar and pour hot milk to dissolve the bomb. Use a spoon to stir in the hot cocoa mix once the bomb explodes.

All About DIY Cocoa Bombs

What are Cocoa Bombs? Well, y’all that’s a great question. It’s a cute little sphere like chocolate mold that is filled with hot chocolate mix.

You then place it in a jar or mug and pour hot milk or water over it to “explode” or melt the bomb and release the chocolate.

Then as you would while making normal hot cocoa, you mix everything together and enjoy.

Variations

  • This recipe uses white chocolate to make a white snowman, but you can change it out for other designs. Stay tuned as we are preparing to share our Reindeer Hot Cocoa Bomb and our Winter/Frozen Themed DIY Hot Chocolate Bomb too.
  • You can make a Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bomb by melting a pile of white chocolate in a saucepan and quickly putting the finished bomb in the melted chocolate and placing it all on a plate to look like melted snow under the snoman head. You can also melt the chocolate in the microwave if that’s easier. Once the bomb dries, you should be able to pick both the head and the melted snow up while they’re connected at one time.
  • If you prefer, you can substitue the hot milk for hot water or any other hot beverage to mix with.
  • Substitute the white chocolate candy melts- instead try white chocolate chips.
  • If you like more rich cocoa drinks, use about a cup of milk, if you want a slightly less rich, use about a cup to a cup and a half of milk.
  • Add in other things once bomb has dissolved, try peppermint marshmallows or candy cane sticks.
  • Turn this adorable cocoa bomb into a Peppermint Hot Chocolate Latte!

Tips & Tricks

  • Try not to handle your chocolate spheres longer than you have to. Otherwise the heat from your hands can start ot melt them.
  • Do not add hot chocolate to the outside of the bomb shells when you’re fusing them together as this will just melt the bombs.
  • Make sure to store the bombs properly so they last longer.
  • Pour the steaming, hot milk on top of the bomb as you’re pouring it in the jar to help the bomb start to dissole. Then use the spoon to flip the snowman a bit and release all the hot cocoa goodies into your drink. Stir well.

How Do You Store Homemade DIY Chocolate Bombs?

This is critical information y’all. Make sure to store your finished bombs in an air tight container (easy to use a Mason Jar). Then store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not store them in an area where the temperature can get hot (as they’ll melt) or where the temperature fluctuates a lot.

How Long Do Hot Chocolate Bombs Last

Great question, this is really important to know especially if you’re giving these bombs to a friend or family member as a gift. You want to make sure you make them with plenty of time left for them to enjoy them.

If stored properly, these chocolate snowman bombs can last up to 60 days. We recommend in a cool, dry, dark place.

If you want to store them in the refrigerator, they’ll last about a month. Make sure they’ve cooled completely BEFORE putting them in the refrigerator to help reduce the risk of condensation forming.

Can You Freeze Hot Cocoa Bombs?

You can surely freeze these bombs once you’ve made them. This will help them last even longer and you can enjoy them at a different time. We recommend freezing up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to enjoy them. Pull them out of the freezer and place in the fridge overnight to thaw out. Do not put in the microwave or use any heat source to thaw them as this could potentially melt your cocoa bombs.

Be sure to add them to your freezer inventory list (get yours today) to keep track of what you have stored and when you have to freeze them by.

Where Can You Get Bomb Molds?

We grabbed ours from Amazon, but making this has become such a popular thing that everyday stores have started to carry them too. You can check out your local Walmart or Target too.

You can even get other kinds of molds to make different shaped and different flavored bombs.

Once you’ve made them, all you have to do is add them to your giftable Mason Jar, add your Made with Love sticker (grab yours in our store) to the lid, use a decorative string to tie your To & From Tag (available here) on and add a label if you want.

Otherwise, make sure to tell them to use hot milk or water to make the cocoa, how to store them and how long they’re good for.
