How To Make Unicorn Dip

  1. Gather all of your ingredients together. You can start by heating your cake mix. You do this by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lay some parchment paper on a baking sheet and then spread the dry cake mix evenly across it. Put the baking sheet in the oven for 6 minutes. Once it has been treated you need to allow to cool and then place it in a big bowl to use later.
  2. Next up, put your softened cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and vanilla extract in your mixing bowl and mix them all together until they are combined. You can use a hand mixer or stand mixer for this. This should take about 2 minutes.
  3. Now add your Funfetti cake mix to the bowl and give everything a good stir to combine Be sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl to make sure everything is getting combined. If using a mixer then this should take around 3 minutes. Lastly, add 1 tablespoon of heavy whipping cream and mix again. Just a couple of minutes to combine everything together. Once the dip is ready, separate the dip equally into 3 separate bowls.
  4. Add 1-2 drops of the first food gel colors into one of the bowls. Using a spatula, mix the dip and gel colors together to get the desired color. Repeat with the other food colors and bowls of dip until you have all of your colors ready to go.
  5. Now add the dips to your serving jar and use a toothpick to swirl the colors together. You don’t want them to mix too much because you want to see the individual colors formed.
  6. Next up add your sprinkles and edible glitter on top. If you want you can swirl the dip again so that the sprinkles and glitter are inside the dip.

Start to assemble your dessert

  1. Get your serving board and make sure it is clean. Now it is time to place on the board your chosen snacks. In this case, we have used animal crackers, pretzels, popcorn, graham crackers, strawberries, and marshmallows.
  2. Place your serving bowl or mason jar with the dip in the center of the board. Then add your animal crackers on one side of the bowl and spread them out a little bit. You want people to see the different animals. Then add the pretzels, popcorn, and the rest of the snacks around the dip in sections so that your guests can see what is there to enjoy.  The large marshmallows and strawberries can fill in the gaps. You could also sprinkle over the top some extra sprinkles if you wish.
  3. Now you are ready to serve up your board and enjoy. Yum!

Recipe Variations

Can you add other snacks to the board? Sure thing! The snacks that surround the unicorn dip can be switched out for snacks you would prefer. Or just use what you have. Fresh fruit and cake would be welcome additions to the board.

Mixing things up with the colors. We have made a suggestion of some of the food coloring you could use, but you can get creative and use different color combinations to make your own spin on this delicious unicorn cream cheese dip.

Add a chocolate swirl to the dip. You could melt some white or milk chocolate and pipe that into the dip and swirl it around with the dip. Just be mindful that the chocolate will set. You could also add some chocolate chips or crushed cookies for extra texture.

Perfect for parties. This is the ideal dessert for your next unicorn-themed party but you can also serve this dessert dip for other occasions just by changing the colors, the snacks, and the sprinkles.

Storage

If you have any leftovers or you have made the colorful dip ahead of time to save the dip for later, then place the dip in an airtight container. You will want to store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Just make sure it has a chance to get to room temperature before serving and enjoying.

Tips & Tricks

  • When using cream cheese it is easier if it is softened first to mix with the other ingredients. Just leave it on the counter for 30 minutes before you are ready to use it.
  • If you choose to use a stand mixer for this recipe then use the paddle attachment to help combine the ingredients together.
  • If you find the dip is looking a little thick then you could always add a little more whipping cream until you get the desired consistency.
